Afterword September 13, 2009
I never understood "The Emperor's New Clothes" when I read it (and saw it) as a kid. This is okay, as I don't think the author intended for it to be understood by children anyway.
Being accustomed to not knowing, I was, as all children are, ruthlessly honest about what I didn't understand, and it was impossible for me to imagine how people could be otherwise. And until you can imagine that, you can't understand the story.
I don't think any child understood that story. If you understood it as a child, I am extremely impressed and I congratulate you for having matured nearly twenty years ahead of me, as it took me until today to finally get that childhood fable.
